Nursery & Primary Sunday School

At 10 a.m. during our Family Service, the children enjoy a creative and diverse Bible-learning experience either with caretakers in nursery or with our Sunday school teachers and teen group “shepherds.”*

Infants and toddlers up through age 4 meet in the nursery behind the sanctuary. They are given stimulating activities to keep them busy and help them grow into well-developed older children.

Elementary children of each age group have a specific activity just for them every Sunday which  helps them understand and interact with a Bible story in a new way. One Bible story or theme is covered in creative workshops each week for four to six weeks. Children’s workshops include such activities as Arts and Crafts, Foodstuffs, Drama, Writing, Video and Games. Each child has the opportunity to participate in each workshop once during a story or theme rotation. At the end of each rotation, children participate in a "Celebration Sunday." The Celebration recaps what they have learned and gives them the chance to share it with their church family. Junior & Senior High Youth Teens are urged to take ownership of their place in the church community by participating in the worship services upstairs on a Sunday morning or “shepherding” a group of younger children in the Sunday school.

Our next Sunday school rotation, "My So-Called Family, is about Jacob and Esau, twin brothers whose story is recounted in the book of Genesis.  Children and their families will be learning about habits and actions that help families work well . . . and ones that don't. They will be learning about family meetings and ways to work and live together God's way.

Youth Group

Activities specifically for teens usually occur on Sunday evenings from 5-7. Monthly activities range from "Live-Chat" discussions about Scripture and relevant topics, bookended with silly games, to group outings to fundraisers to craft nights to community service projects. Teens and their leaders keep in touch about schedule changes via Facebook and text.

In the first half of 2012, youth will be discussing topics with the help of the book Confident Christian, in the hopes of being able better to understand and communicate faith. They are also raising money to help them represent GPCC at the International Council of Community Churches' conference in Charlotte this July.

*All volunteers over the age of 16 who work with children and youth submit to annual background checks.
