Rain does not fall on one roof alone
Cameroon

How we like to think of ourselves as special. How we love to believe that God takes care of us better than he does those who don’t believe like we do. Often we hear someone say after an accident in which several people were killed and one or two survived; God saved my life. I have to wonder about a God that would save one life and at the same time take several lives. God loves all of his creation not just us special people. Rain is a great metaphor. For rain truly brings us life. Without rain we have a drought. And a drought is surely injurious to crops, lack of good crops leads to a poor quality of life for all. On the other hand too much rain and we have the disasters of storm. So we seek the right amount of rain. When the rains come, for good or bad, they do not select one house over another. We sometimes think that God will bless our friends and us and curse our enemies. It is the theme of so-called patriotic sermons. Too often an ultra-conservative faith (Christian, Islam, Judaism and others) will place God on our side and against those who believe differently...

But what does Jesus say: You have heard that it was said, you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes the sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what rewards have you? You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

God loves his creation, all of it, every single person on this earth. To love the entire creation is to have pure perfection. Can we ever learn to love one another, as we want to be loved? Until that day comes God will continue to rain on every roof.
